Art Deco Bronze and Marble Figurine c1920s
This lovely bronze dancer is signed A.Gory - attributed to Italian-born artist Affornuato Gory, and is typical of the artrist’s sensual Art Deco style. The dancer is elegantly posed, with the draping folds of her skirt adding movement and grace. She sits atop a solid black marble base, and she is in fine condition.
Born in Florence, Italy in 1895, Affortunato Gory (Gori) was a French-Italian artist who specialized in Art Deco figurative sculpture. Gory worked in primarily bronze, often combined with marble or ivory. Gory studied with noted sculptor Augusto Rivalta at the Accademia di Belle Arti, and later moved to Paris where he continued to practice and learn from the French artist Victorien-Antoine Bastet. Gory exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français on multiple occasions, but his career was cut short. He died in 1925, aged just 30.
