Borek Šípek “Apollo” Bowl for Swarovski 1997 Serial SG9706021 (D0534)

$1,495.00

Designed in 1996 for the prestigious Swarovski Selection line, the “Apollo” bowl represents one of the most sculptural and architecturally ambitious works by Czech designer and architect Borek Šípek. Known internationally for his expressive, postmodern forms and his role as architect to the Czech president, Šípek brought a level of conceptual sophistication to Swarovski that few collaborators have matched.

The bowl is crafted from velvet‑frosted glass, giving it a soft, tactile matte surface that contrasts dramatically with the brilliance of the 40 coloured Swarovski crystals encircling the bowl. Each crystal is individually set in platinum‑plated prongs, creating a halo of colour and light that shifts as the bowl is viewed from different angles — a hallmark of Šípek’s fascination with optical play and structural rhythm.

Pieces from the Swarovski Selection line were produced in very limited numbers, intended for collectors of contemporary design rather than the broader crystal market. The Apollo bowl is one of the most sought‑after works from this period, rarely appearing on the secondary market.

This example retains its original label and is etched with serial number SG9706021, confirming authenticity and placing it firmly within the early production sequence. At 1.85 kg, it has the substantial presence expected of a sculptural design object.

A standout opportunity for collectors of Šípek, contemporary design, or Swarovski’s important collections.
