Bertil Vallien Red Rim Bottle, Hand-blown, c2000s Sweden (D0323)

Bertil Vallien is one of Sweden’s foremost contemporary glass artists known for his artistic sculptures and functional pieces. Vallien studied drawing early in his life before pursuing an interest in ceramics and glass, going on to become one of Kosta Boda’s leading glass designers. His work continues to gain international critical acclaim. Vallien continues to exhibit internationally while also lecturing in the US and Japan.

Vallien described this series as a nod to classic forms and the raw beauty of glass. This fusion of art glass sensibilities and functional design means that each unique bottle is both sculptural and functional. The bulbous, shimmering body features cobalt blue swirls created by rolling the parison in powdered colour before encasing it in clear glass to create a stunning optic effect. A bold red rime has been applied in the final stages of blowing.

The bottle is in excellent vintage condition and is inscribed Kosta Boda on the base.
