Scheurich Desert Glaze Fat Lava Vase c1960s
Founded by cousins in 1928, West German company Scheurich started producing ceramics for the domestic market in 1948. To appeal to a burgeoning mass market in the postwar years, they developed several popular moulds that they covered in different glazes. Typical of the period were so-called ‘fat lava’ glazes, thickly applied and often cracking to reveal vibrant colours beneath a molten top layer.
This particular example is model 202 and features a stunning desert glaze in rich golden, amber, and browns which is in excellent condition with no obvious blemishes. At 24cm tall, this fabulous vase is the perfect size for a centrepiece, console, or elegant shelving.
