Oiva Toikka (1931–2019) was a legendary Finnish designer and glass artist celebrated for his imaginative flair and bold use of colour. Toikka carved out a distinctive path with whimsical, expressive creations and is most well known for his iconic Birds By Toikka series, launched in 1972. Toikka designed over 400 unique mouth blown birds, which are highly coveted by collectors. Each bird is unique and individually signed.
Originally produced in the legendary Nuutajärvi glassworks, production of his birds later transitioned to Iittala.
Beyond glass, Toikka also made significant contributions to ceramics, textiles, costume and theatre design and has received numerous prizes.
This bird is Toikka’s Baby Crow, originally launched in 1991 and produced until 1997. It was handcrafted in the Nuutajärvi glass factory before production moved to Iittala. It has a sleek black body and lustrous collar in shades of green. It is a favourite among Toikka collectors.
