Oiva Toikka (1931–2019) was a legendary Finnish designer and glass artist celebrated for his imaginative flair and bold use of colour. Toikka carved out a distinctive path with whimsical, expressive creations and is most well known for his iconic Birds By Toikka series, launched in 1972. Toikka designed over 400 unique mouth blown birds, which are highly coveted by collectors. Each bird is unique and individually signed.
Originally produced in the legendary Nuutajärvi glassworks, production of his birds later transitioned to Iittala.
Beyond glass, Toikka also made significant contributions to ceramics, textiles, costume and theatre design and has received numerous prizes.
This bird is Toikka’s Spotted Crake, featuring a mottled pattern with hues of the palest blue, red-brown, and white with a clear crystal head and mirrored beak. It is no longer in production.
